To become a volunteer counsellor at CDI, you will need to demonstrate that you have an insight into the issues facing young people. We will look for some kind of prior experience of working with young people in a voluntary capacity; by this we mean as a youth worker, mentor or supporter. If you are a teacher or in social care and can demonstrate your support of young people in this way we will also consider your application. Our second essential criteria will be that you are as a minimum in your second year of counselling diploma study.

At CDI our approach is 'person centred' but we encourage an integrative approach and also recruit and employ counsellors who have specialised in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Art Therapy and Hypnotherapy.

To become a volunteer within the Outreach Team you will need to have an initial interview, we will be specifically looking at individuals who have a youth work background or other specialist discipline such as group worker, trainer or background in sexual health, substance misuse for instance.

Young People

Young People are central to our organisation and involved in many ways, there are opportunities to join the Outreach Team once you have completed an induction programme.  We have participation opportunities for young people who are on our counselling waiting list or who have come into contact with us through engagement with talkbus or their schools programmes.

We have two youth trustees who help to inform the agency on new developments and how such developments would support young people.

The CDI ethos is to support personal growth and development and as such we encourage and where possible will support placements. At CDI main office we have limited capacity to offer short term placements but it is always worth contacting us to find out how you can help. If we cannot provide your placement we may know another agency who can.

New Paid Positions
